The Walking Dead is back for its fifth season this October and it looks like they’ve finally got a good budget for blowing zombies up. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve enjoyed the various decapitations, impalings, grinding to sludge beneath tires we’ve been treated to. It’s just nice to see a mushroom cloud of the undead every once in awhile. Hint: if they’re walking down the tracks in bad-ass…

When HBO announced the new cast for Season 5 of "Game of Thrones" last week, there were a couple major surprises for book readers. The majority of the newest cast members will play characters from Dorne, one of the regions of the Seven Kingdom's where Season 5 is expected to spend a decent amount of time. Last season we met the beloved fallen hero Oberyn Martell, Prince of Dorne, who gushed about his home country's forward-thinking. Its laws of equal inheritance among men and women and its lack of a stigma toward illegitimate children are two things highly uncommon in the rest of the…

Previously on 24:24 made a lot of fans happy. I'm hoping for an encore tonight...Kate is brought into the loop by Jack. The Universal Remote Control is truly universal- it can control all TVs, VCRs and weapons systems around the world. Okay, I'll suspend disbelief for an hour. Make it good.Crow Villain lets Chloe know that he's stealing the override device to render the world's arsenals obsolete by making all their firewalls vulnerable to outsider control. This is basically what Facebook does to your private life.Navarro, with the device in his purse, runs like a giraffe on a treadmill yet he…
  • 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY: Season 9: 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Quick Review

    23 Jun 2014 | 7:05 pm
Previously on 24, James Heller died.Holding up her end of the deal, Shadow Mom orders the drones to crash into the earth. One drone left to destroy...And then Shadow Son figures out the video feed of Heller dying is looped. OH SNAP. Heller is still alive! Chloe calls Heller and Jack and tells them all the drones are destroyed... wait, one is coming back! Dammit, cancel the ice cream cake! Heller makes some grumpy old man remark about wanting to die like a lion. Jack's manservant shows up and Jack tells Heller to get in the car and lay low. Jack gets in a chopper and calls 40 people on the…
  • 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY: Season 9: 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Quick Review

    16 Jun 2014 | 7:15 pm
Previously on 24, I lost my patience with some absurd plotting and a conclusion that made me long for the days of Charles Logan and his selfish presidency. This season, we get the opposite- a curmudgeon with a heart of gold in James Heller. Certainly we should applaud this man's courage in deciding to surrender himself to save thousands of innocent lives. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one, right? Eh...Doctors at the CIA substation tell us Simone won't be ready to talk for at least one more episode.Meanwhile, Simone's Mom (Shadow Mom) is really excited about the…

  • Welcome To Sweden Review – TV NBC Takes A Risk With ‘Worldly’ Comedic Style

    Marc Eastman
    15 Jul 2014 | 2:26 pm
Welcome to Sweden Review NBC is rolling the dice on an idea that not only has long odds, it has the potential to alienate a large portion of the target demographic. That’s not quite as bad as it sounds, because the alienation only comes by way of a potential nepotism backlash, and the public is somewhat immune to paying attention to such things, unless someone stirs them up about it. Welcome to Sweden is a sit-com that is ostensibly based on Greg Poehler’s real experience as a New Yorker who moves to Sweden to live with his girlfriend. Because his sister, Amy, makes several cameo…
  • Spent: Looking For Change Movie Review – Tackling The Breakdown In Banking

    Marc Eastman
    9 Jul 2014 | 7:54 am
Spent: Looking for Change Movie Review The cold truth is that far too often problems simply don’t seem to exist until we find a way to put a face on them, unless they touch us directly. Spent: Looking for Change is a documentary short that hopes to put that face on the death spiral that is the general banking and finance system in America. Everyone has a general idea of the difficulties people face when it comes to credit scores, and the problems that might be faced by those who, because of hard times, find themselves forced out of the normal banking system, but these things are easy to put…
  • The Bridge Review Season 2 – FX Drama Switches Gears

    Marc Eastman
    8 Jul 2014 | 2:38 pm
The Bridge Review – Season 2 Taking a show that seemingly ends, more or less, into a season two pick-up is tricky ground under the best scenarios, but FX‘s The Bridge was the story of the hunt for a serial killer, and now we have to find something else to do with ourselves. The gimmick, apart from the serial killer investigation, was obviously trying to coordinate U.S. and Mexican law enforcement, while weaving through the corruption inherent in the world surrounding the border. This led to some great twists and turns, especially when it came to certain aspects of trying to exist…
  • Foxcatcher Teaser Trailer – Channing Tatum Incites Curious Oscar Buzz

    Marc Eastman
    8 Jul 2014 | 6:36 am
Foxcatcher has been managing a lot of hype since at least last November, and the release of the teaser trailer has caused quite a stir. The internet is throwing the name around, as well as both Channing Tatum‘s and Steve Carell‘s, connected with ideas like “Oscar contender,” and “Award worthy,” and while the trailer gives hope for a solid film, I have to wonder exactly where all the love is coming from. To be fair, a lot of the discussion is obviously coming from people who have seen the film (it was at Cannes), but a lot of it is also coming from people…
  • Doozers Review – Hulu Brings Back Henson’s Green Builders

    Marc Eastman
    7 Jul 2014 | 1:22 pm
Doozers Review Going back to the nearly untouchable world of Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock is no small affair, and Hulu‘s first original show aimed at kids, Doozers, does just that. If you’re going to take a shot at something beloved by so many, you better hit it out of the park, and this show does. Of course, that’s partially because there was no way that this was going to see the light of day unless there were a lot of people behind it, but it still could have gone wrong. As if digging into a classic show wasn’t enough, Fraggle Rock actually stands the test of…

  • The Leftovers Recap, Episode 5: “Gladys”

    Jared Jones
    28 Jul 2014 | 2:49 pm
By Jared Jones It’s a testament to The Leftovers – or perhaps the skills of Mimi Leder, who directed last night’s episode, “Gladys” — that the show can still make me feel bad for a person who refused to help a fallen stranger when she is brutally stoned to death mere moments after doing so. Karmatic comeuppance* is my jam, yo, and toss in the somewhat Biblical twofer that Gladys a.k.a Cathy Geiss from 30 Rock met her demise via a good old fashioned stoning, and you’d typically have my bell ringing louder than a morbidly obese opsophagos at a Long John…
  • Why Adapting “The Last of Us” Into a Movie Is a Bad Idea

    DustinSeibert
    28 Jul 2014 | 2:41 pm
I wish I could get excited about this one. A big-screen adaptation of last year’s PlayStation 3 survival horror game “The Last of Us” is on its way, which should be exciting for fans of The Walking Dead, survival horror and anything George Romero ever touched or influenced. I’ll bet a lot of die-hard fans of the game itself have a somewhat subdued sense of excitement, though, as concerns that no full-length feature film could properly capture the game’s story are valid. Full disclosure: “The Last of Us” was the last game I played on my PS3 before I…
  • ‘Mike Tyson Mysteries’ Is Actually Real And Here’s The Trailer As Evidence

    28 Jul 2014 | 2:26 pm
I’d heard rumors about Adult Swim‘s plans to create Mike Tyson Mysteries, an animated show starring Mike Tyson as himself teamed up with an alcoholic pigeon voiced by Norm Macdonald. Then it was something I dismissed, mistaking it for my own booze-induced fantasy. Turns out that it is real and I went through that 12-Step Program for no damn reason. Here’s a trailer that proves its existence as well as my ability to decide for myself that when I’ve had enough to drink. • ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 5 Trailer Is All Action

    Wookie Johnson
    28 Jul 2014 | 1:22 pm
The Walking Dead is back for its fifth season this October and it looks like they’ve finally got a good budget for blowing zombies up. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve enjoyed the various decapitations, impalings, grinding to sludge beneath tires we’ve been treated to. It’s just nice to see a mushroom cloud of the undead every once in awhile. It also seems like the gang doesn’t hang around Terminus for very long which makes it easy to predict who does and doesn’t make it out of there alive. Hint: if they’re walking down the tracks in bad-ass…

Unfortunately, this might be one time that Sherlock doesn’t want to access his mind palace. While it might be unbearable for viewers of Sherlock to have to wait until what now looks like Christmas 2015 for the return of the world’s most famous consulting detective, it must be worse for Benedict Cumberbatch to have a pretty good idea as to the particulars surrounding the distinct possibility of Moriarity’s return and have to keep silent for that length of time.   The Sherlock star admits that he is aware of the “very good idea” behind the reappearance of…

  • ‘Doctor Who’ meets The Nerd on ‘Robot Chicken’

    Bill Young
    24 Jul 2014 | 10:03 pm
Robot Chicken, created from the mind palaces of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, got just a bit cooler recently as, at long last, The Doctor finally meets The Nerd. Airing as part of the Adult Swim block on The Cartoon Network, Robot Chicken is a sketch comedy series that parodies a number of pop culture conventions using stop motion animation of toys, action figures, claymation, and various other objects. While the comparisons between the TARDIS and Snoopy’s doghouse are probably a bit over the top for The Doctor, The Nerd does last long enough to travel back to the stone age in the…

However, an eventful offseason and a chance to improve on a disappointing 2013 season will help add some spice to the show. For those unfamiliar with the team, here are eight things [...]

During the Television Critics Association Press Tour, show runner Noah Hawley talked about the future of “Fargo” and how it will be taking place in the past. Something sinister happened at Sioux Falls in 1979, and it shook diner owner Lou Solverson so much that he still can’t stop talking about it 27 years later. The gruff and grizzled former cop mentioned Sioux Falls multiple times during season one, and it looks like fans are finally going to find out…

From Lightly Buzzed Greetings from Germany! I have been off the radar for a bit while I consume chocolate and sausage (wink wink). My significant other downloaded some episodes of The Strain, a show I was interested in because of the horror and gore after they subjected the world to the eye-worm advertisement. People freaked out, so I was instantly interested.  I had no knowledge of the show other than the freakish gore part, hoping it might be a more sci-fi style American Horror Story with even creepier body horror.  All this is a big “yay” for me. I watched the first episode…

Borrowed from http://thewertzone.blogspot.com/ I’m not particularly a contrarian by trade, and one could probably categorize me in the hipster file if they were so inclined, but I’m about to lay some hate on an institution that I think deserves it. I think New York Comic Con is a buzzkill. I think it does a disservice to fans and fandoms and it’s time I put it on blast. Here’s the reason for my resentment: the treatment of Terry Pratchett. At New York Comicon the year I went, he was giving a panel where he was reading from his latest book. The crowd seated about fifty…

From GoodMenProject Wilfred is coming back for a final season, and I can’t wait. Wilfred is another one of those shows with that unique tonal flavor; dark, but with a half-twist of a smile, straddling clever writing and jokes about humping. I have no idea what to officially expect, mainly because I don’t watch trailers and commercials, and I don’t follow spoiler articles about guest stars and such. But I do know what I hope to see.  Let’s refresh. The final episode of the last season ended explosively, with the death of Ryan’s father and the revelation that…

The cavalcade of mixed reactions to the conclusion of the “Pamela” three-parter is indicative of something positive about a show; that it is so highly affective that individual people will have remarkably different reactions. My experience live-tweeting it was met with a great deal of support and a little bit of ire. It isn’t wrong for people to question my feminism after my ultimately positive response. One of the advantages of feminism(s) is that the reactions and beliefs are varied, and in this specific instance, I will be departing from the mainstream of feminism by…

  • How to connect to Netflix during an outage (sometimes)

    Daniel Repasky
    30 Apr 2014 | 6:18 pm
According to IsItDownRightNow, Netflix has been having more problems today after a brief outage yesterday (I guess they haven't paid the telecoms quite enough protection money yet). Commenters their have come up with a solution that works in some of these smaller outages - just connect to Netflix' IP address directly:69.53.236.17Whenever you enter an address into your browser like "netflix.com", your browser then checks the "Domain Name Server" (DNS) to see where that domain is located - at what IP address. If the DNS is down, but the server is still up, you can still get there by bypassing…

  • Review: In The Flesh Season 2, Episode 3

    Kirsty Everiss
    6 Jul 2014 | 7:52 am
The third episode of this series sees the storyline go down a dark path. The enemy of the piece, the new councillor, may have secrets to hide. At the end of episode 2 Jem, Kieren’s sister, was patrolling the woods for any rabid PDS sufferers. A party was going on near the woods and Henry, a PDS sufferer and class mate of Jem’s, was walking through the woods. Jem, thinking she needs to prove herself, shoots Henry dead after thinking he is a rabid. Gary, Jem’s fellow patroller, attempts to cover up the incident. Jem feels guilt ridden that Henry is really dead this time and not coming…
  • Review: Game of Thrones Season 4, Episode 10 – The Children

    Harriet Matthews
    16 Jun 2014 | 11:52 pm
The title of season four’s final episode refers, in the main, to two things; the mysterious Children of the Forest, who are supposedly gone from the world, and the children of Tywin Lannister. The Children of the Forest, along with the mysterious ‘three eyed raven’, are what Bran and company are hunting for north of the Wall. And, this week, they finally find them, in a spectacular display of old world magic. The coveted raven turns out to be an elderly man living underneath a giant (and beautiful) Weirwood tree dispensing mystical advice, which is presumably going to take Bran’s…

  • Review: In the Flesh Season 2, Episode 2

    Kirsty Everiss
    11 Jun 2014 | 3:17 am
The end of the second series opener was leading us down a dark path. As the second episodes starts we can tell that village relations are going to be fraught. This episode focuses mostly on Jem, the sister of main character, Kieren. Jem is back at school after the events of the Rising in Roarton. She is having nightmares about her experiences of killing Rotters (the dead beings that had risen). Kieren is planning to leave for France, but is stopping due to a new initiative set up in the village by the new MP. However, there are dark forces that are trying to expose the new government…
  • Review: Game of Thrones Season 4, Episode 9 – The Watchers on the Wall

    Harriet Matthews
    10 Jun 2014 | 12:08 am
Well, we’d be lying if we said this was the direction we thought the showrunners would take for episode nine, the event episode of the fourth season. We certainly weren’t expecting an entire episode completely dedicated to the men of the Night’s Watch. Fervently hoping for one, certainly, but expecting one? We never thought they’d have the cojones. Considering the amount of other interesting stuff going on in Westeros at the moment, the decision was risky, but it’s paid off (big time). Going by sheer spectacle, The Watchers on the Wall is the best episode of Game of Thrones yet. The…

  • Short Film Review: Doctor Who: Celebrating 50 Years of Fandom

    whoviantheology
    8 Jul 2014 | 7:21 am
The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who was a celebratory event-fans throughout the world eagerly waited in anticipation for the 50th anniversary special, a slew of books, posters, and various other merchandise flooded the fanbase, and conventions throughout the world-both official and “unofficial” provided an avenue for fans to show their love for their favorite time lord. In all of the major celebrations and the deluge of official merchandise, it was easy to overlook some of the smaller yet still noteworthy celebrations of the show. One such gem is, the kickstarter funded project: Doctor…
  • Favorite Quotes from the Ninth Doctor’s era

    whoviantheology
    2 Jul 2014 | 8:10 pm
Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor only appeared for one season, and while some of the special effects and story lines during his tenure were not the best, (though every season has it’s hits and misses) the 9th Doctor was a fascinating character and I believe a the ninth doctor was the perfect way to introduce the show to a new generation. So in honor of his era, here are my top favorite quotes from the first season of NUWho. 5. Episode: World War Three We live in an increasingly diverse and complicated world, whose problems are massive and often global in scope. Technology and societal norms…

    15 Jun 2014 | 2:32 pm
The three Doctors are posed ready to detonate the moment and destroy both the Daleks and the Time Lords, including 2.47 billion children. Hands pressed on the weapon’s button, the Doctor gives a stirring speech: DOCTOR 10: What we do today is not out of fear or hatred. It is done because there is no other way. DOCTOR: And it is done in the name of the many live we are failing to save. Yet before they could press the button, the Eleventh Doctor looks back at Clara, who shakes her head while lightly crying. DOCTOR: What? What is it? What? CLARA: Nothing. DOCTOR: No, it’s something. Tell…
  • 1. The Day of the Doctor: These are the people you’re going to burn?

    whoviantheology
    31 May 2014 | 8:47 pm
I’m sure it doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone that The Day of the Doctor is my favorite episode from the Matt Smith era. Frankly, this episode is my favorite episode of Nuwho thus far. For me, The Day of the Doctor typifies the very best of Doctor: it has genuinely funny bits, it has a weird looking alien that I’m sure children will try to imitate and because it is the 50th anniversary special it has a bunch of little Easter eggs that hark back to the earlier era of Doctor Who. It is no wonder that this episode has been described as “a love letter to fans.” However, the episode…

    26 May 2014 | 8:25 pm
Almost done counting down my favorite episode from Matt Smith’s time as the Doctor! It is no secret that the Doctor hates himself. Death and destruction follow him. VASTRA: The Doctor has been many things, but never blood-soaked. SIMEON: Tell that to the leader of the Sycorax, or Solomon the trader, or the Cybermen, or the Daleks. The Doctor lives his life in darker hues, day upon day, and he will have other names before the end. The Storm, the Beast, the Valeyard. There is blood on the Doctor’s hands. The species/people he had to kill or let die in order to save others, the…
